7 Important Tips To Endure Stress During Virus Quarantine

Many of us have been so overwhelmed with this sudden change that has impacted our life and routine because of the pandemic we are facing for what could be months. Some of us have been laid off from our jobs, we have a constant fear of what will happen to our lives in the future. Work hours have drastically decreased, impacting families income. This pandemic has directly affected our sense of safety and caused a change in our behavior, putting us in constant alert mode regarding contamination and safety.

An event like a pandemic can trigger our system to engage in automatic responses and it can become very difficult to manage feeling calm.

Below are 7 Tips on what to do to maintain a healthy routine in a time of crisis

  1. Avoid panicking. When our body experiences panic it can directly affect our immune system which can become more vulnerable to free radicals that make the body ill.
  2. Set minimum time to worry about the crisis. When we intentionally set time to worry about something it can produce a long term positive impact in our sense of control and increase our capacity for self-regulation.
  3. Entertain yourself with funny and healthy activities. Use your free time to enroll in a free online class such as yoga, zumba, that can stimulate endorphins release and relax our body.
  4. Have your family participating in a delicious food recipe where you have all of them engaged in making the meal together. It can be a very fun moment and a great opportunity to talk and have all family together.
  5. Take advantage of the free time and work on your garden, your house, or spend time watching movies and begin watching that Netflix series that you could never watch due to your busy schedule.
  6. During the day remember to disconnect and take deep breaths. A change in our routine can cause a ton of stress and it might take us a little while to adapt.  Get outside to walk or exercise and get vitamin D with fresh air.
  7. Be kind and empathetic to not only others but yourself. In times of stress, anxiety will increase and impatience can be a natural response of our body with acute and chronic crisis.

Remember, is not what happens to us but what we do to what happens to us that will make the difference during a crisis. Do not hesitate in difficult times to look for a professional mental health counselor and learn more about how to effectively manage crisis and improve coping skills.

It’s interesting that you should take breaks during the day and enjoy walks outside for some fresh air. I’ve had some panic attacks in the last couple of weeks since I am stressed with work and how the pandemic is stressing me out. I’ll have to see a therapist to help me deal with my depression and anxiety.
