Bio
Philosophy of Care
Heidy believes in the potential individuals have to work through their problems, achieve their chosen goals, and develop characteristics to support maintaining their completed goals. She uses an integrative and tailored approach in working with individuals, couples, and families to meet their unique and evolving needs. It is always Heidy’s goal to offer a safe space where clients can be authentically themselves without fear of judgment.
Therapy is a deeply personal and vulnerable experience. The therapeutic relationship is different from any other relationship in your life because its purpose is to offer safety, understanding, unconditional positive regard, clinical interventions when deemed appropriate, and support for any problem that is causing you distress and dysfunction. Heidy’s role is not to bombard you with advice and judgment but to be a mirror for you, a guiding presence, and a collaborative partner in your journey to achieve your goals.
Education
Heidy completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences at AdventHealth University. She earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Rollins College where she completed additional coursework to earn a certificate in Family & Relationship therapy which later inspired her to work towards dual licensure as a Registered Mental Health Counseling Intern and a Registered Marriage and Family Therapy Intern. To further her understanding of working with couples and relationships, Heidy received training in Level 1 Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Heidy is also a trauma-informed therapist and is trained in EMDR therapy.
Background
Originally born in Cuba, Heidy emigrated with her parents to the United States as an infant and has called Central Florida home since then. Heidy is fluent in English and Spanish and appreciates the multicultural environment she was able to grow up in. Heidy’s father was discriminated against by the Cuban communist government for his religious beliefs and was able to emigrate to the United States as a political refugee and start a new life of freedom for him and his family. From an early age, Heidy understood that being an immigrant was both a privilege and an opportunity to work towards achieving goals that would have otherwise been impossible in her native country.
Today, Heidy is happily married to her husband of almost 9 years and enjoys hobbies such as barbell strength training, singing, and spending quality time with friends and family.
Heidy is open to those who would like to incorporate a religious/spiritual approach to their counseling sessions. She is experienced and enjoys working with clients of all walks of life, regardless of culture, age, race, religious, or non-religious background.
Personal Note from Heidy
“I often compare the journey of therapy to finally tackling a very cluttered closet you have been neglecting for years. At first, it might seem overwhelming, scary, and feel worse before it starts to feel better, but once you begin doing the work and sorting through all the things that have been stored away in this figurative closet, you can look back and be proud of the effort you put into making your closet accessible, free, and calm. I am honored to go on this journey with you, so that you know you are not alone.”

Testimonials
A Few Kind Words From Satisfied Clients
“In our couples counseling, Heidy listens and offers suggestions for us to work through issues while helping us with new ways of thinking. She has guided us on how to reestablish communication. She’s very kind while also holding each of us accountable. We’re both comfortable with her and many times at home we’ll say “let’s discuss this with Heidy.” She creates a safe space where we can be honest and speak freely with each other as we repair our marriage.”

Counseling Focus: Relationships
“Seeing Heidy really helped me through a tough time, and helped me realize how much of an impact prior experiences and trauma have had on my life. Heidy’s attention to detail and care is evidently seen when she is able to move and connect one topic to another, from meeting to meeting, all while explaining the possible and evident connections between the different circumstances. I definitely recommend seeing Heidy for faith based or non-faith based counseling, and I’m sure you will appreciate the accessible meeting times and comfortable meeting rooms!”
